Cargo Cults

Almost two thousand years, and no new god!
- Friedrich Nietzsche

Eliohim (in Hebrew) means 'gods, angels'

Since ancient times, mankind worshiped some form of Creator, which in the ancient days was plural - there were multiple gods. In time, plurality became singular, and that's a paradox of diversity. It was a major step in the spiritual evolvement of the species, as today most people think of god in terms of one Omniscient Being who looks after all of us.

Many people today try to compare their thoughts and feelings to those experienced by people from ancient times - a mistake that continues to be repeated by members of both the scientific and religious communities. The primordial human wasn't as mentally active as humans are today, and even if the very basic needs and activities of humans (eating, sleeping, and so on) hasn't changed through history, the number of activities has increased over time, giving the impression of a rapid life-style. As a fact, primitive man had a very limited vocabulary, and the language used had a localized, literal interpretation. Because of this, most of their tales were about survival and/or self-realization. The survival stories were painted on walls or carved in stone. But when dealing with self-realization, the stories themselves were feelings transformed into rituals within rituals. So, what was and is this self-realization?

When you feel enlightened with tremendous power, the sensation you Feel throughout your body is that You are Alive. Because you're so happy you try to share it with others. Your friends and relatives see the excitement of life you feel, and because they want to be part of you - your experience - they modify the original interpretation into something they can understand - and a Myth is born.

From that moment onward, tribal mentality shapes the future, transforming the happiness of one person into a condition that everyone must obey. The religions of man are comparative mythologies, because through many oppressions of various forms, they adopted many experiences, and all this resulted in group consciousness. There are more than 10,000 religions worldwide, and unfortunately they have been primary contributors to crimes against humanity. Not much has changed in the human consciousness in the last 10,000 years…

From the religions of man, only 5 percent are still based on the living self-realization that they are an integral part of the planet. As for the rest of the religions, well… they are composed of inherited belief systems from ancient texts.

Major religious philosophies are based on the enigmatic stories of the Gods who came and went. Religious creation stories are incompatible with present science, because they can't explain evolutionary missing time. One of the greatest paradoxes within theological philosophies is in the Western religions. They are the single-deity religions that share a common creation story - Genesis. When looking at the genesis texts of Western religions, many wonder why there is so much bloodshed. Is the God that people pray actually the psychological projection of the angry human? If so, what was the triggering point of this anger and when did it occur?

The same questions could be asked of plural religions that clearly indicate that the original gods were of a physical nature. Were these preancient gods star travelers who came from unimaginable alien worlds? These are not questions of whether a Universal Life Force exists. Rather, these questions are in reference to why (?) religious visions are so self-destructive. The Old Testament that Christianity, Judaism and Islam share is actually a collection of stories copied from very ancient sources. How ancient were those texts originally? And if those texts were based on certain events that occurred before recorded history, then the historical events couldn't have begun in 3761 BC (according to Judaism), or 4004 BC, as Christianity would have us believe. Could it be that the dates that Judaism and Christianity mention represent the creation of those religions only and not the genesis of the world? Could it be that the self-destructive behavior of present religions is due to the anger that our ancestors experienced when the stellar gods left?

The deeper we look back in time, the more we recognize the probability that the gods were plural, and that religions such as Hinduism are describing factual but almost humanly unimaginable realities where the gods lived in floating cities, their aircraft roamed the skies, and battles between the gods were fought in the air. Today, Hindis look at their religious texts as a science fiction Universe. But how could the primitive tribes of India, Africa and the Americas come up with such Star Trek-like tales of the Gods? Were these fables in fact literal interpretations of actual events? Were these gods actual inhabitants of a preancient era that both science and religion deny is possible? What time frame are we looking at?

As previously stated, primordial man had a very limited vocabulary. In those days the names of colors were very basic, and man couldn't differentiate verbally between pink and fuchsia, sage and green, lavender and purple, and so on… Likewise, when man described the gods that came from heaven, that basically meant from the sky - and in particular the stars. Have you ever wondered why almost all ancient stories of God or the gods - including the Western religions, Greek and Roman mythology, and many Native American traditions - mention god(s) coming from the sky or high places such as mountains?

According to ancient texts such as the Enuma Elish, the ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead, Popul Vuh, Mahabharata, Ramayana, Nilamata Purana, the Vedas, and so forth, the gods who brought knowledge and possibly destruction originated from certain coordinates in the sky. It is true that primordial man feared natural phenomena, and in turn worshipped Nature to bring rain, a good harvest, or luck in various ways.

But certain civilizations are still incomprehensible to modern man, and their knowledge of mathematics, astronomy, agriculture, architectural design and construction remain a mystery as to how (?) those ancient humans had the knowledge to build marvels that we are still incapable of duplicating. To this day mankind can't figure out the enigmatic construction techniques that built the Great Pyramid of Giza. Contemplating the origins of the ancient gods, whose characteristics modern religions blended into a single Being, is an exercise almost never indulged in by modern man, and is one reason so many feel isolated in the Universe. Will the gods of the ancients return as prophesied, and if so how will we interpret their arrival?

The story goes that when Columbus's ships were approaching the Caribbean islands, at first the natives literally couldn't see them because they could not comprehend what they were looking at. The Indians had no knowledge of the existence of Spanish galleons. The local Shaman saw unusual ripples in the ocean, and couldn't understand the strange pattern. As time went by and he continued to stare at the horizon, he finally saw the strange-looking ships that were approaching. Once he saw them and told everyone of the approaching ships, the others saw them, too, because they trusted in and believed him.

The past has many examples of humans who were mistaken for gods - in particular during the European colonization of the New World. For example, the God of the Mayas - Quetzalcoal - was also known in different parts of Central America as Kukulkan, Gucumatz, Viracocha..., and was portrayed as a bearded, white-skinned deity who arrived in Mexico from the East across the seas. Why would the Mayas describe a God with Caucasian facial characteristics? Keep in mind that the native men of Central and South America are small in stature, dark-skinned, and have no facial hair. Unfortunately, because the gods came and then departed, the religious beliefs of the indigenous peoples became apocalyptic due to the disorder that was created when the gods left. In their naivety, the Native Americans made the wrong assumptions about the new white-skinned, bearded people with shiny armor who came from the East. These were not the gods returning, but the Spanish conquistadores. Their mistake resulted in the deaths of an estimated 22 million indigenous people throughout Central and South America in the name of God that the Catholic inquisition preached at that time. This is one of the largest genocides in human history. Other religious genocides remain taboo topics because the people who practice those religions don't want to admit that theirs was capable of the mass destruction of ancient cultures.

The Mayas, Aztecs, Incas and many other Native American tribes could not have realized that (relatively) advanced cultures existed on the other side of the ocean, and that those Europeans didn't come in peace, but their thoughts were of gold and religious oppression. This example of colonization is a prime example of how a very different, advanced race can be perceived as gods by a less-developed culture. If humans could be totally decieved into thinking that other humans were gods, then who were the actual gods described by the Mayas, Aztecs, Olmecs, ancient Egyptians, Sumerians and Indians? Stories of these Gods existed long before humans brutally colonized the planet. What kind of gods were they? Could they also have been human - or were they astronauts from other worlds?

An important historical note that the Mayas, Aztecs, Incas and many other ancient tribes stated in their historic records that the incredible monuments we credit them with building actually existed before their arrival into that region. Another interesting twist in Egypt is that it was common practice for rulers to claim previously existing obelisks, pyramids and other structures as their own; they often literally erased the existing cartouche of the original builder (and sometimes perhaps other rulers who had also claimed to be the builders) and substituted theirs.

What this means is that we are not dealing with an ancient world that has been presented as orthodox science and religion would like us to believe, but something far more ancient than previously thought. Did you know that in 1994 the Sphinx in Egypt was re-dated - first to 5000 and then to 7000 BCE and possibly earlier, due to geological erosion? However, the mainstream Egyptologists couldn't offer an explanation as to who built it, because it would contradict all of their traditional theories.

So, what happened long… long ago? If we interpret the ancient texts in the context of the time in which they were written, then something amazing happened. Giant floating cities surrounded the planet - cities that today we would call motherships, which always remained in orbit and never reached the ground. But smaller vehicles came out of these cities. In Hindi/Sanskrit literature these vehicles are called Vimanas. These writings describe many shapes and types of Vimanas. Some of them were extremely noisy while others were absolutely silent. People were shocked when the shadows of these objects fell on their valleys.

In one of these Indian texts - Vimaanika-Shaastra or "The science of aeronautics," you can clearly read that three of these "cities" came together on the firmament (sky). A gigantic war between the gods had begun. Glittering rays were seen in the night sky. Some of the cities were destroyed. And to the inhabitants of Earth it looked as if thousands and thousands of little stars were falling to the ground. This story is not imagination - it's a fact in ancient Indian literature.

Isn't it ironic that Eastern philosophical writings are more articulate about the gods than their Western equivalents? In the Bible, Vimanas are referred to as "splendor of the gods," "chariots of fire," etc.…

So, what happened to the gods? Beings from the stars arrived and stayed on Earth for a time. So why did they leave? Did humans become so dependant on them that they began to feel like cosmic babysitters? Whatever the reason, the star beings eventually left and humanity was forced to live their own lives and make their own decisions.

The sudden self-responsibility was a shock to the primitive man, who had gotten accustomed to being guided by and taken care of by the gods. In the time immediately after their departure, all the high priests could do to try to maintain social stability was to create new rituals to try to bring the gods back. Did the high priests know that these beings were star travelers? Probably, but as time passed the original knowledge became polluted and stories changed, as they usually do.

Whenever a technologically advanced society interacts with a technologically primitive society, the underdeveloped one often cannot comprehend the new technologies the members are witnessing. They interpret the technologies as some form of magic, or a force from "out there" - maybe from the gods. In the past century or so, there have been many recorded instances of modern man coming in contact with primitive cultures. Oftentimes, these primitive cultures look upon the more advanced humans as gods. These primitive cultures often try to mimic as best they can the behavior and technologies of the "gods." Sometimes, they even create new religions based on their new-found knowledge. These primitive cultures that try to copy the technologies and practices of more-advanced cultures are referred in anthropology as cargo cults.

In the 20th century alone more than a 100 cargo cults were documented worldwide. One came out of World War II, when a number of Pacific islands that had previously been left undisturbed by civilization found themselves home to American military bases. These bases had airstrips on which landed planes loaded with clothing, food, radio equipment, and other things needed to run an outpost. After the war, the bases were dismantled and vacated, leaving behind a lot of confused islanders. When the strangers were around doing strange things, food fell from the sky. When they left, it stopped. So some islanders began to mimic the activities of the soldiers who had left. They sat in towers, carved wooden statues that looked like aircraft, lit signal fires, and waited for the food to fall again. The natives didn't have words for aircraft, propeller, engine, fuel. But they copied these objects as best they could, believing that it needed to be adored because it belonged to the gods.

When the beings who came from the sky departed, humans created costumes that were similar in appearance to the clothing of the gods. They also drew/carved lines on the ground that resembled airstrips, and built temples that looked like aircraft or space capsules. At the same time, egocentric priests attempted to take the place of the gods. They declared wars among tribes in desperate attempts to invoke a godly intervention.

When the Gnostic texts mention the aggressive behavior of the gods, it's not so much in reference to the original beings who came to Earth and then departed. It's more in relation to the violent behavior of the cargo cults, which performed human sacrifices, rapes, mass murders (genocide) and other crimes against humanity. This is an interesting synchronicity, because according to ancient texts, each time mankind went on a killing spree that almost led to self-destruction, the stellar gods came back and intervened. Are these stellar gods in a mothership within the solar system observing the dramas we create in our daily lives?

There are many ancient mysteries that mainstream science and religion choose to ignore because they could force us to re-examine all of human history. Are humans afraid to rewrite history according to real events from preancient eras? It's up to mankind to face the reality that we are not alone. Otherwise, we could become a victim of our own ignorance.

Atlantis:

The word Atlantis symbolizes a mythical continent/world that was destroyed a long… long time ago. Atlantis is the name given to this "lost continent" by Plato, and it's not the real name of this "mythical" place. If it existed nobody knows the real name. The story of Atlantis begins quite literally with two of Plato's dialogues, Timaeus and Critias. It's kind of ironic to think that the only evidence remaining of this missing continent is the word of Plato. Is this good science?

In the past few decades, every year or so you might hear on the news that the missing civilization has been discovered in the Canary Islands, or somewhere in the Caribbean, or Spain, or Iceland, or Crete, or Malta, or New Zealand, or Peru, or Bolivia, or Ecuador, or Antarctica, or Mexico, etc… The locations are all over the Earth, and yet nobody agrees whether Atlantis even existed. In my opinion everyone is right, because their discoveries show some of the anomalies of preancient civilizations.

A common characteristic of the preancient world is the way blocks of stone were used in building walls, temples and pyramids. At a number of worldwide locations there is a common building technique utilized interlocking stones - some of them massive. The patterns resemble jigsaw puzzles (polygonal masonry). The similarities of building techniques used across the globe indicate that the same creators were part of a global development. What if "Atlantis" was just another city among many others - all part of a global civilization? If so, then we should be searching the entire planet for evidence of this "global" civilization.

We, the present humans, are not the only ones to have made it this far. The arrogance of humanity toward its own past is just another delusion of grandeur or an inferiority complex conditioned by many generations. Be brave, don't ask generalized questions, be specific, and have an open heart and mind to the reality that is bigger than yourself.
